New Ad + How We Got Our Name
July 2, 2010
We've been busy working on our web site and new product development, but we're finally circling back to some long-delayed
marketing projects. Here's the first of some new ads we'll be running.
Speaking of advertising, one little known fact is that TimeKeeping Systems started as the offshoot of an advertising agency.
Our first product was a system that used bar codes to track how much time people spent on different projects and tasks.
It was initially developed for internal use tracking artists' time at an ad agency, and after some in-house success we decided
to offer it to the world as The TimeKeeping System. (When you have only one product, naming it is pretty easy!)
For some reason, most of our interest came from law firms. We had some bizarre sales calls. One lawyer, arrogant and quite
impressed with himself, told us he had already invented a system like ours, but since he was busy being a lawyer and didn't have
time to commercialize it, it was ok for us to use his idea. After calling on a few more lawyers we realized life was too
short and moved on to other things.
That was back in 1985. We came out with our first guard tour system shortly afterward.
So, that's how the company got its name. It was named after our first product and it still describes what we do.
What ever happened to The TimeKeeping System? We sold exactly two copies, to the cartography department of the World
Bank.
