Officers Arrested After Inmate Suicide

Cell Check System

Don't let this happen to you. Protect your facility — and your reputation — with a Guard1 Plus system.

September 6, 2011

In an incident reminiscent of last year's Scannergate, two officers at a Texas county jail were charged with tampering with government documents.

An affidavit filed by a Texas Ranger stated that after the suicide of an inmate, who hanged himself in a medical cell, an officer and a watch commander changed observation logs, to show that cell checks had been performed when in fact they hadn't. Texas law requires periodic observations of inmates every 15, 30 or 60 minutes, depending on the inmate classification. For medical cells, 15-minute checks are required.

If you are responsible for managing cell checks at a correctional facility — whether in a medical, administrative segregation, or other area — Guard1 Plus can confirm that your officers are performing their checks as required. Guard1 Plus helps to protect your facility, your officers, and the inmates' well-being.

Why risk damage to your facility's reputation or expose your facility to the cost and burden of litigation? A Guard1 Plus system costs less than you might think, and certainly less than the cost of defending a lawsuit.
