What can you tell me about the Assemblies of God National Headquarters?
Our facility is the national headquarters for the Assemblies of God church. We have been located in Springfield, Missouri
since 1918 and are one of the largest employers in Springfield. We house all of our executive offices, all the support offices
for the churches in the U.S., as well as 1,800 missionaries overseas. We have an in-house printing operation that prints
all the material that our churches as well as other denominations use. We also have a distribution center which ships our
material all over the world.
What are the logistics of the building?
We have eighteen buildings covering ten city blocks. Our main building is four stories with a six-story distribution center
and a four-story warehouse connected to it. Our other buildings are one or two stories. We have approximately 1,100 employees
working in this ten block radius.
How long have you been with the organization?
I have been with the organization since 1990, but assumed the title of Security Manager in 1996 when our executives decided
to bring security in-house. I was working as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with our local sheriff's office at that time. I am
currently a Reserve Police Officer with a local municipality. My daily duties are to oversee the operation of the security
department and to research new ways of bettering the security at our facility. I am also responsible for the security of
our biannual convention which we have in a different city throughout the U.S. It draws an attendance of approximately 30,000
people.
How many officers do you have?
There are seven security officers under my direct supervision in one department. We work eight days on and six days off
with lap-over shifts. There are two officers on most of the time, but there are times when we have just one on duty.
How many rounds do you do?
We make four to six rounds of our campus each day. I require them to change each round in order to not set a pattern, but
I leave it up to each individual officer on how they do it. We have 78 buttons located both indoors and outdoors.
Can you tell me where the buttons are located?
The indoor buttons are located in the stairwells on both ends of each floor as well as near the elevators in the center
of each floor. They are also on the time clocks which are located throughout the complex. I have also located them near
each exterior door of the complex. The exterior buttons are located on the exterior doors of our outside buildings and on
the light posts in each parking lot. We have also located some on the outside walls of some of the buildings.
How do the officers get to the outside buttons, by foot or car?
Since our complex encompasses ten city blocks, we have a marked security vehicle in which we make our outside patrols.
What kind of weather do the outside buttons have to stand up to?
The weather in Missouri can range from below freezing in the winter to over 100 degrees in the summer. These are the extremes.
Our typical summers are around 95 degrees and very humid. Our typical winters are in the 30's and 40's and we have very
little snow fall.
How long have you been using Guard1 Plus?
We have been using Guard1 Plus since December of 2003 and like it very much. Before we had
Guard1 Plus we used conventional paper reports, that were very time consuming and not very
accurate.
How many PIPES do you own?
We have one PIPE at the current time, but hope to add another one very soon. Our buttons are located in stairwells, on door
frames, on time clocks and on various locations around our entire campus both inside and outside.
Do you print the reports?
I print the reports on a random basis and check to see if the officers are doing what they are supposed to be doing. I then
use the reports to correct any deficiencies that I may have.
Are there special things you have to check for?
Our facility is located in what you would call the inner city of Springfield. We do not have problems as other cities in
Missouri, like St. Louis or Kansas City do, but we have our fair share. Transients and intoxicated individuals are our primary
issues. We also have some problems with vandalism.
What is your favorite thing about Guard1 Plus?
The main problem that I faced was not being able to be onsite to supervise my employees continuously.
The Pipe has allowed me to have a management tool to assist me with this task. It also gives me accurate documentation
to justify what we as a security department do on a daily basis. My favorite thing about Guard1 Plus
is that it eliminates almost all paperwork and frees up my officers’ time to be more productive in their duties.
