What is done at the Distribution Center?
We are the main distribution center for Stage Stores Inc. and we are located in Jacksonville, Texas. Stage Stores, Inc.
brings nationally recognized brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics and footwear for the entire family to small and
mid-size towns and communities through 522 stores located in 28 states. The company operates under the Stage, Befalls and
Palais Royal names throughout the South Central states, and under the Peebles name throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern
and Midwestern states.
What are the logistics of the building?
The Distribution Center itself has approximately 500,000 square feet of processing area, all heated and cooled. We sit on
28 acres and our trailer yard can hold 180 trailers. Our trailer yard never closes and our officers utilize
The PIPE on the yard as well as in the building.
What is your title?
I am the Distribution Center Loss Prevention Manager and I have been with SSI since 1996. My daily duties are to oversee
the operation of the security department and to investigate any loss prevention issues at the facility. I am also responsible
for any investigations throughout our supply chain.
How many officers do you have?
There are ten security officers under my direct supervision in one department. An officer always covers the facility gate
and an officer covers the Distribution Center, any time it is open.
How many rounds do you do?
The officers make eight to twelve rounds a shift. The rounds are not set in any particular pattern, and the officers are
encouraged to change them frequently. They patrol both inside and outside and inspect the trailer yards as well as the outside
of the building itself. The outside buttons have held up just as well as the inside buttons.
How long have you been using Guard1 Plus?
We have been using the Guard1 Plus System for about two years. Before then, the security
officers used the old; “pencil and paper” shift reports to notate their findings and tours. Obviously,
The PIPE is easier to carry than a clipboard and the officers love it.
How many PIPEs do you own?
We have two PIPEs due to overlapping shifts. It enables the officers to make more rounds and still have the detailed information
to notate their tours.
Where are the buttons located?
We have buttons located throughout the Distribution Center, both inside and out. The Distribution Center is broken up into
several departments. We have our buttons placed in several parts of each department and by all exit doors and of course
the secluded parts of the facility. We also have a button on the roof, to ensure the officers are checking that area also.
Do you print the reports?
I rarely print the reports. I only do for the occasions that I would need to print it off to physically take it to another
department to address an issue. I get the reports emailed to me every Monday morning by my security supervisor. It takes
very little time for me to inspect the reports and focus on the exceptions we have put into place.
What kind of security issues do you face?
Our main security issue is simply the physical security of our Distribution Center. My security officers are responsible
for all aspects of the Distribution Center. From not only knowing who is in the Distribution Center, but to what doors,
gates, and trailers are secured or not secured, The PIPE ensures that the officers are getting
around to all points for inspection.
What problems has The PIPE solved for you?
The PIPE has simplified the shift reporting of my security officers. It enables me to simply
pull up a report on my PC and see what and where an officer has been during his or her shift. By taking the burden off of
an officer to fill out a shift report, it enables them to be more productive and visible.
What is your favorite thing about Guard1 Plus?
My favorite thing about the Guard1 Plus System is the accountability of the officers’ time
and tours. By simply clicking a button, I can justify the amount of time an officer is spending and where he or she is spending
it. It makes my job much easier and productive.
