CrypKey License Reset Procedure

Due to the occurrence of certain errors or problems with software activation it may be necessary to delete and recreate the CrypKey license files.


Do not perform this procedure unless instructed to do so by Technical Support or a Knowledge Base article!



Uninstall license drivers

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start > Run.
  3. In the Open dialog, type CMD then click OK. This will open a Command Prompt.
  4. Type CD \ then press Enter.
  5. Type CD Program Files\Guard1 Plus (or CD TimeKeeping Systems\Guard1 Plus if Windows Vista) then press Enter.
  6. Type setupex.exe /U then press Enter.
  7. Click OK at the message “Uninstall complete, you will need to restart Windows before attempting to re-install.”
  8. Close all windows and reboot the PC.


Delete the license files:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program files\Guard1 Plus (or C:\TimeKeeping Systems\Guard1 Plus if Windows Vista).
  3. Click Tools > Folder Options.
  4. Click the View Tab.
  5. In the Advanced Settings section:
    • Check the option Show hidden files and folders
    • Uncheck the option Hide extensions for known file types
    • Uncheck the option Hide protected operating system files (Recommended), then click Yes to confirm.
    • Click Apply, then OK.
  6. From the Guard1 Plus folder delete each of these files:
    • LICENSE.41s
    • LICENSE.ckn
    • LICENSE.ent
    • LICENSE.key
    • LICENSE.rst
  7. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 (or C:\WINNT\System32)
  8. Find and delete these files:
  9. Close My Computer.
  10. Reboot the PC.


Recreate the license files:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Guard1 Plus (or C:\TimeKeeping Systems\Guard1 Plus if Windows Vista).
  3. Double-click the file SETUPEX.EXE. (NOTE: you will see no activity other than a brief hourglass; this is normal) .
  4. Close My Computer.


Activate Guard1 Plus.
