KB256986 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986/) Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

You must be an Administrator to edit the Windows Registry. If you do not have Administrator privileges, or are not familiar with the terms and methods described in the procedure below, please contact your IT Department for assistance.

Create the missing Registry value(s):

  1. Close all open windows.
  2. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard, then type REGEDIT in the Open field and press ENTER. This will open Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to:
    • 32-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
    • 64-bit WindowsHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
  4. One or both of the values RegisteredOrganization and RegisteredOwner may be missing in the right window pane.
  5. To add the missing value(s), Right-click in the right window pane and select New > String Value.
  6. Type the name of the first missing value (e.g. RegisteredOrganization) then press ENTER.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the second missing value if necessary.
  8. Verify that both RegisteredOrganization and RegisteredOwner are now present in the right window pane. It is not necessary for them to have a Data value.
  9. Exit Registry Editor.

Re-run the Guard1 Plus Data Maintenance Application by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator. It should complete the Reports deployment and open successfully.

If the Registry values are present but the issue remains, check the status of the Windows Server service:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard.
  2. In the Run dialog, type SERVICES.MSC and press Enter. This will open the Services Console.
  3. In the Services list, double-click Server.
  4. In the Server Properties window, click the General tab.
  5. Change the Startup type to Automatic. If it is already set to Automatic, skip to Step 7.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. If the Service status is "Stopped", "Disabled" or "Paused", click Start. Otherwise skip to Step 8.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Restart the PC.

Re-run the Guard1 Plus Data Maintenance Application by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator. It should complete the Reports deployment and open successfully.

If the Server service will not start, or starts for the session but does not restart after a reboot, there is an issue with Windows. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for assistance.

If the above remedies do not work, check the permissions on the folder C:\Users\ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS\AppData\Local\Temp.

  1. Log in to Windows as a Local Administrator.
  2. Open File Explorer and browse to C:\Users\ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS\AppData\Local.
  3. Right-click the Temp folder and select Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. In the Group or user names panel, select ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS.
  6. In the Permissions for ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS panel, verify that Full control is checked and that no checkmarks are present in the Deny column.
  7. If the ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS user does not have Full control, click Edit.
  8. In the Group or user names panel, select ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS.
  9. In the Permissions for ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS panel, click the Full control Allow checkbox.
  10. Click Apply. Click Yes or OK at any dialogs that appear.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click OK to exit Temp Properties.

If you made changes to the ReportServer$GUARD1PLUS user's permissions, re-run the Guard1 Plus Data Maintenance Application by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator. It should complete the Reports deployment and open successfully.

If the issue is still not resolved after performing the steps above, contact Technical Support.
