You must be an Administrator to edit the Windows Registry. If you do not have Administrator privileges, or are not familiar with the terms and methods described in the procedure below, please contact your IT Department for assistance.

 

Temporarily disable the Attendant option Launch the Attendant when my computer starts:

  1. If the Attendant icon is present in the System Tray after clicking OK at the error message:
    1. Right-click the Attendant icon.
    2. Select Options.
    3. Uncheck the option Launch the Attendant when my computer starts. If this option is not checked, skip to the next section, "Remove Guard1 Plus from the Startup folder".
    4. Click OK.
    5. Skip to Step 3.
  2. If the Attendant icon is not present in the System Tray after clicking OK at the error message:
    1. Close all open programs.
    2. Click Start > Run.
    3. In the Open box, type REGEDIT, then click OK.  This will open Registry Editor.
    4. Navigate to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TimeKeeping Systems Inc.\Guard1 Plus\Settings (32-bit) or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\TimeKeeping Systems Inc.\Guard1 Plus\Settings (64-bit).
    5. In the right window pane, double-click the entry RunAttendantAlways.
    6. Change the Value data from 1 to 0. If the Value data is already set to 0, skip to the next section, "Remove Guard1 Plus from the Startup folder".
    7. Close Registry Editor.
  3. Restart the PC.
  4. Open Guard1 Plus. If the error does not recur, you can re-enable the Attendant option Launch the Attendant when my computer starts.  This will add Attendant.exe to the end of the Windows boot sequence, allowing the CrypKey service to load before the application.

 

Remove Guard1 Plus from the Startup folder:

  1. Click Start > Programs (or All Programs) > Startup.
  2. Right-click Guard1 Plus and select Delete. If Guard1 Plus is not present, skip to the next section, "Verify the CrypKey service is running".
  3. Click Yes.
  4. Restartthe PC.

 

Verify the CrypKey service is running:

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open box, type SERVICES.MSC, then click OK. This will open the Services Console.
  3. In the Services list, double-click Crypkey License.
  4. In the CrypKey License Properties window, click the General tab.
  5. Change the Startup type to Automatic. If it is already set to Automatic, skip to Step 7.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. If the Service status is "Stopped", "Disabled" or "Paused", click Start. Otherwise skip to Step 8.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Restart the PC.
  10. Open Guard1 Plus.  The error should not recur.  If it does, please contact Technical Support.
