Symptoms

When connecting an IP Downloader to a network switch, the Network LED turns amber, then blinks red. The downloader can not obtain an IP address or connect to the network. The switch does not recognize the device. The Network LED will eventually turn green when the downloader self-assigns the private IP address of 192.168.104.104; this usually takes 1-2 minutes. The downloader is not pingable on the network.

This issue has been encountered with specific network switches:

Cause

The Cisco 2900-series will only communicate with IP Downloader at 10MB Half-Duplex. The cause for other switches is unknown at this time.

Resolution

For managed switches such as the Cisco 2900-series switch, configure the IP Downloader's switch port to use 10MB Half-Duplex.

For unmanaged switch models, connect the downloader to a different model of switch. If the Network LED turns green and the downloader is accessible on the network, the original switch is not compatible - use the alternate switch.
